Hello Night Crawlers, welcome to Vol. 24 of The Nocturnal: Midnight Snack, a weekly recap of anything I found “shareable” over the last 7 days. SO SORRY I’m late with your Sunday night treat. I’ve been beyond groggy today and am currently struggling to keep my eyes open, even as I watch the new (VERY disturbing) Hunter Schafer flick, because I had another wild weekend. This time my over-socializing was due to our best friends’ wedding weekend (which was BEYOND fun & beautiful), but I’m just not cut out for two aggressive nights out in a row anymore, and today I’ve been what Kevin Mcallister’s sister and the French call "les incompétents." However, since being lazy is something I don’t permit nearly often enough, it’s been a LOVELY day. Je ne regrette rien!
Now, let’s get into this week’s recs for what to See, Listen, Talk, Taste, & Shop:
See: A Cool New Milanese Designer
I’m really trying to just use social media for sharing vs. **consuming**, but occasionally I, alike most of us, get caught up on my phone, lost in a doom scroll. Most of the time this is just a mindless time suck. Occasionally, though, my social leisure time actually DOES 1) teach me something or 2) inspires me, so it’s not all bad! And today my lackadaisical scrolling led me to a really fun Milan-based fashion designer named Valeria who has THE COOLEST vibe.
A friend reposted this pic from her recent runway show of her (I think?) wearing her own design in full goth-glam glory. Formerly FASCINATED with serial killers (though now reading about them kind of creeps me out), I was immediately drawn to this sleep-mask shaped top with the words “Serial Killer” boldly plastered on it. Is it perhaps a nod to my favorite unreleased Lana del Rey song? Based on Valeria’s very-dreamy aesthetic and glam meets punk meets nostalgic brand VALERIEVI, I could def see LDR as an influence/reference. Here are some more looks of hers I am DYING over:

Listen: My Fav Unreleased LDR Song, “Serial Killer”
I couldn’t mention this incredible track, noted above, without properly sharing. It always confuses me when artists like Britney and Lana have ENTIRE ALBUMS worth of unreleased tracks that fans are obsessed with that never make it to a legit album! WHO is putting these incredible songs onto the cutting room floor?!
Talk: It’s Late & I’m Woozy from Allergy Meds
I’m sure I’ll have something to wax poetic about next week, my late night lingerers. Leave me what’s on your mind in the comments.
Taste: A Model Salad
I pride myself in being very decisive with MOST things, especially for a Libra. However, one sector of my life in which my sun-sign predisposed indecision DOES occur is FOOD. I cannot decide what restaurant to go to or what to order from the menu to save my life, nor can I be bothered to choose! This is why, pre meeting by now hub, I LITERALLY would eat the same things everyday for 2-3 weeks at a time before doing a mild change-up.
Well, on photo shoot days at work, we always need to order out for lunch, and the rest of the crew LOVES some variety, so it’s often a new place each time! AH!!! Often pressed for time in a way that does not accommodate for my crippling indecision about what to order, I’ve started to try something new: copying someone else’s lunch order. Last week it was our Stylist’s salad I replicated, the week before it was one of our model’s. And the salads they designed are REALLY GOOD! Making your own salad can be risky, too, so I was very impressed.
Here is one of my new favs from Lenwich, which I’ll call The Michele, in her honor:
I would have NEVER thought of putting Tuna Salad in a caesar salad but OMG what a combo!
Shop: Chic Backpacks
I’m sure most of you bag-wielding night crawlers can relate: the bigger my bag, the more that ends up in it, and the worse off my poor shoulder (which often ends up with a massive dent from the weight). No bueno! Even my hub was caught off guard by my day bag’s weight when I asked him to hold it the other day, which is a PRETTY BAD sign because he’s really strong! So, that, coupled with a knotty neck, has initiated my search for the perfect backpack.
Truthfully, I haven’t been into the backpack thing for a WHILE. It was a look I rocked in my **past life** as a DJ (when I had a pretty sick collection to tote around my gear), and one I wanted to contain to that time in my life. But lately, schlepping from home to office to dance class, etc, has been WAY ROUGH on my neck, so here we are! It’s not 2011 anymore, though, so I’m looking for options with a sophisticated twist that are more Moda Operandi and less Urban Outfitters. What can I say, I’ve evolved.
One challenge is that I’m SUPER FRUGAL when it comes to bags—I only own one high end designer bag and it was a gift—so I’m trying to keep this purchase under $250. Right now I found these favorites that I’m trying to decide between. Help me decide!!! My Libra ness is Libra-ing:
Modern Picnic Backpack & Lunch Tote
Caraa Cirrus backpack in Midnight
Bonus: A Look for Ken
I co-designed a custom look for my hub to wear to the wedding we went to this weekend and WHO KNEW pink velvet with yellow piping would be such a winning combo!!! I was skeptical when he suggested it, tbh, but it totally worked out and I really wish Ryan Gosling had had access to this look for the Barbie press tour:
